The Balthazar is a flat character in this story. How is he flat? In my mind I see a flat character as a character that has sides conversations with one of the main characters that don't move the story any further. And almost all of the things the Balthazar says go in the lines of "good evening!" "Would you like me to play a song?" (I don't know Shakespeareian so sue me!) and then just sings the songs and leaves. In a nutshell this is why the Balthazar is a flat character.
